Sonoma County and neighboring Napa Valley make up most of Northern California’s picturesque wine country. With near perfect weather year round, the area welcomes its fair share of tourists, wine enthusiasts, and foodies. It also welcomes a thriving community of makers and small businesses including a darling general store called Truck & Barter in the historic town of Petaluma.
Founded by California native Julia Hohne, Truck & Barter is an an extension of her American upbringing where she grew up hunting for treasures in vintage stores and collecting special items to bring home. The store is also a representation of a distinct ‘new American aesthetic. One that is warm and inviting, wonderfully balancing rusticity with thoughtfulness without sacrificing composition.
Julia is hands-on in every sense of the word from designing the brick-and-morter to developing Truck & Barter’s namesake candles. It’s through her understanding of each maker’s story that she’s able to beautifully articulate how and why a product in her store could be valuable in someone’s life. (We love the new collection of baskets as much as the assortment of kitchenware.) Her affinity for vintage also hasn’t wavered as her collection is available for sale, waiting to be discovered by a new owner and a welcoming new home.
